Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan LLB (Cave Hill UWI) and LEC (Hugh Wooding Law School) was born on October 12, 1960 at No. 48 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. He is an eminent Attorney-at-Law, a fearless and objective politician, and volunteer youth organizer. His profession as an Attorney-at-Law and as a politician brings him in contact with people from all over Guyana. He is married to Sita Ramjattan and is the father of two sons, Divesh and Vikash.
“Prakash”, or “Prak” as he is fondly known was born into and grew up in a grassroots, humble political family on the Corentyne, Berbice. His formal introduction to politics was through the People’s Progressive Party where he ascended through the ranks, from being leader of its youth section (PYO) to the position of member of that party’s Central Committee.
However, his futuristic way of thinking, probing mind and true commitment to democracy at all levels including at the level of internal party arrangements, brought him into conflict with the old dogmatists of the PPP/C. It was his vision for a new and progressive political dispensation in Guyana that led him to the formation of the Alliance For Change in 2005, the party he founded with Raphael Trotman and Sheila Holder.
This former State Counsel in the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions 1984 – 1988, and former President of the Guyana Bar Association 2003 –2005, has been a Member of Parliament since October 1992, serving as a Member of the Public Accounts Committee in 2001 – 2004, and in a number of other Parliamentary Committees. He has fearlessly and objectively represented his views on numerous issues, some highly politically sensitive, all in his quest for a better Guyana. His advocacy in many high profile human rights cases has given him prominence and stature in Guyana’s legal fraternity.
Pastor Eworth Quientel Williiams
CARICOM Anti-Gang Project
Pastor Eworth Quintel Williams known as the professor, attended the regional Training Programme and later Family Of faith College in Shawnee, Oklahoma, USA. He has been the Youth Pastor at his Local church in Georgetown for the past three years and an elder for the past 10 years. Pastor Williams is the founder of the EDGE Youth Conference which is an annual international youth conference held in Guyana. He serves the Guyana Evangelical Fellowship as National Youth Coordinator , Coordinator and executive Director of of EACs Caribbean Youth Network from Jan 01, 2010, and Youth Director for the world evangelical Association.He also serves on the Caricom Anti Gang project, Community leader in Albouystown and the operation Albouystown project in collaboration with the Guyana police force, and the Leader for the church without walls project which is based on the church going outside of the 4 walls and serving the community and providing services. As a servant of God Eworth feels divine compulsion to minister comprehensively on the status of youth with regards to social and economic issues, being an example of the viability of the next generation.
Mr. Derwayne Wills
Youth Advocate
Mr. Derwayne Wills is a freelance journalist, youth advocate, and a sociology undergraduate at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, where he minors in gender and development. He has volunteered with the Guyana National Youth Council since its inception in 2013. Earlier this year, Derwayne was part of a three-member team which drafted a research paper on the situation of youth in Guyana as it relates to the juvenile justice system. That paper was presented in collaboration with partner organisations of the Guyana Equality Forum to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in Washington DC.
Ms. Patricia Gittens
Final Year MPH Student,
Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Guyana.
Ms. Patricia Gittens is one of the many committed and creative professionals working for child rights in Guyana. Currently, Ms Gittens is the Child Protection Specialist at UNICEF Guyana, taking the lead for development programmes (in UNICEF)- with the Government of Guyana, Civil society and academia in the areas of birth registration, alternative care for children, violence against children, child labour and juvenile justice/children in contact with the law- whether as offenders, victims and witnesses of crime. Prior to joining UNICEF in 2007, Pat worked as the Projects Director at the then Ministry of Amerindian Affairs which allowed her to develop a deep appreciation on inter-cultural approaches to programming and diversity. Pat holds a LLB and MBA and is currently a final year student in the Masters of Public Health Programme (Faulty of Health Sciences) and the title of her dissertation will focus on the development of “A Prospective Policy Analysis: Mental Health Policy for Children Subjected to Violence in Guyana”.
