Dr. Nigel Gravesande is an organized, analytical and competitive professional with approximately three decades of experience at Executive/Senior levels in tertiary education, public, diplomatic and private sector. Possess wide experience in both tertiary education and international economic relations. Hard working and dedicated with excellent negotiating skills. Dr. Nigel Gravesande truly possesses considerable experience in both tertiary education and international economic relations. Indeed, because of his proven track record at the local, regional and international levels in providing sustainable solutions to complex and challenging problems, particularly in the tertiary education sector in the Region, the University of Guyana is honoured to have him, an alumnus of the University, as its Registrar.



Professor Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith is the Tenth Vice Chancellor and Principal of The University of Guyana. Earlier, he served as Executive in Residence at The University at Albany, State University of New York, and the Ninth President of Fort Valley State University in Georgia where he led the right-sizing of the educational and economic enterprise, focusing on growing enrollment, improving community and corporate linkages, controlling expenditure, launching an Honors program and an Undergraduate Research Program, and initiating a feasibility study to establish a School of Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation. A political scientist, Dr. Griffith served earlier as a tenured professor of political science and provost and senior vice president at York College of The City University of New York from 2007 to 2013 where notable achievements included growing the full-time faculty by 30 percent over four years, re-organizing the academic division into Schools of Business and Information Systems, Arts & Sciences, and Health Sciences and Professional Programs, and enhancing the research and scholarly climate by creating the Provost Lecture Series, the Distinguished Scholars Lecture Series.



Dr. Clive Thomas is a distinguished Professor of Economics and former Director of the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Guyana. He has held visiting Professorships in Africa (University of Dares Salaam), Canada (Visiting Distinguished Professor at the Norman Patterson School of International Relations), United States (Leonard O’Connor Professor, Colgate University), and the West Indies (George Beckford Professor in Political Economy).He has authored/co-authored 30 books/research monographs/papers. He has also published over 154 academic articles and contributions to books/research monographs and presented invited papers to a similar number of academic conferences, symposia, and seminars. Prof. Thomas’ major fields of research interests and publications include: Development Economics, with special emphasis on: growth, trade, finance, agriculture (sugar), environment, natural resources (gold, bauxite, forestry) institutional development, and political economy.



Mr. Rawle Lucas is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over 25 years combined experience in the financial services industry, development economics and international affairs. Lecturer at University of Guyana since January 2013. Hold also a Masters Degree in International Affairs and undergraduate degrees in Economics and Accounting respectively. Accomplishments include weekly contribution to Business Page of Stabroek News; publication of the Lucas Stock Index (LSI); Chairman of the Economic Sub-Committee of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations; and Vice-Chairman, UNICEF Executive Board; Chairman of Guyana Revenue Authority Board; Director on the Board of the Bank of Guyana and serving as Executive Director, Trade, Investment & International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a member of the Member, Ministerial Task Force on Revitalization of Cooperatives. Lived and worked in Ethiopia and Bangladesh. Currently working on paper on Taxation and Public Finance in Guyana.



Captain Gouveia is an aviator extra-ordinaire with in excess of 40 years experience flying in the jungles of Guyana, South America and the Caribbean. He is an Airline Transport Rated Pilot and is a recipient of the prestigious Guyana National Award “The Golden Arrow of Achievement.” He was awarded a Government of Guyana Scholarship to attend one of the world’s most Prestigious Aviation Universities: Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach Florida USA. He graduated as an Aircraft professional Pilot and Advanced Flight Officer. He continued his education in other fields such as National Security, Political Science, Tourism, Aviation Security Management, Aircraft Search & Rescue and Aircraft Accident Investigation. He is a “Fellow” of the Centre of Hemispheric Defence Studies in Washington DC. Captain Gouveia founded his company Roraima Airways (Named after Mount Roraima) along with his wife Captain Debra Gouveia who is also an experienced Airline Transport Rated Pilot.




Dr. Grantley Walrond, Chairman and Managing Director of RMC Silica Company Ltd,(RMC) and geological consultant, studied geology and economics at the University of Ottawa and the University of Alberta in Canada graduating with a Phd from the latter in 1978. He has been Chief Technical Advisor (mining) with the United Nations Department of Technical Cooperation for Development where he worked on plans for the mining sector of Ethiopia, and Belize, Colombia, Argentina and Ghana. He was Commissioner and Deputy Chairman of GGMC and the and Deputy Chairman of the Guyana Gold Board. He recently supervised the work of 13 geologists in the Canadian-based Reunion Gold Corporation exploration for manganese in Guyana. He has co-authored ‘Options for developing countries in mineral development’ and ‘A metallogenetic scheme for the Guiana Shield’ ( MCMillian). Dr. Walrond is moderator of the HBTV television program “Spotlight”, which discusses socio-economic and political issues of various kinds.


PMr. Stefon Paul is the president of the University of Guyana Economics Society and is currently a final year student in the Bachelor Social Sciencesdegree in Economics program at the University. The UGES is one of the academic clubs at the University of Guyana that contributes to the development of the social and intellectual capacities of the students who are members of the UGES.
